  • New figures from the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) show a 5% increase in the value of the recorded music industry in 2015, the first upwards trend the industry's had in its wholesale figures since 2012. (ABC) Streaming now accounts for 62% of the overall market. Digital downloads went down by almost 13%, while CD sales fell 4%.
  • The Eclectic Bar Group, owners of Lola Lo and Dirty Blonde nightclubs, has announced the acquisition of The Brighton Marine Palace and Pier Company, which owns and operates the Grade II-listed, structure for £18m. (FT, BBC, Guardian)
  • Former Beatport CEO Matthew Adell has launched Metapop, a tool to help artists earn money from fan remixes. (Pulse, Mixmag)
  • SFX Entertainment’s remaining 36 employees in New York will made redundant in July but shows will go on as it hopes to emerge from bankruptcy. (NYPost)

  • Live Nation has acquired New York’s Governor’s Ball Festival. (DMN)
  • US television network Fox has announced that the inaugural edition of their EDM award show – the Electronic Music Awards – is to be postponed. The event was due to take place this month. (Fact)
  • Figures this week's IFPI Global Music Report 2015 show that digital music revenues have surpassed the takings from traditional music formats for the first time. (RotD, Guardian, Billboard, Billboard, Times) IFPI head Frances Moore highlighted the "value gap" - the points between the amount of free, ad-supported on demand streams on services like YouTube, and the money those streams generate for the industry: “Music consumption is exploding worldwide, and it’s a 3.2% increase. The question could be why is it not higher?”
  • Pete Tong in conversation with Bob Lefsetz announced for IMS Engage, taking place April 21 at the W Hollywood, Los Angeles. (IMS)

  • Analysts found that 45% of US Tidal app users identified as black, compared to 16% on Spotify, and 20% on Pandora. (BusinessInsider)

  • Not only do YouTube have a month-to-month rolling contract with Universal, Spotify is in a similar contract with at least two of the major labels, and if not already, soon with all three. (MusicAlly)
  • Artist-rights organisation the Future of Music Coalition has claimed independent artists uploading music directly to SoundCloud (rather than through a label or distributor) can only start to earn royalties from those recordings if they are a ‘Premier Partner’. (FoMC)
  • SoundCloud has announced an integration with Twitter Moments via audio cards. Now users can listen to a SoundCloud track directly in the Moments tab. (SoundCloud)
